Loyola Marymount Roughs Up Titan Pitching, 11-3

Loyola Marymount ended its 10-game losing streak to Cal State Fullerton with an 11-3 nonconference baseball victory in front of 919 Wednesday at Titan Field.

It was the largest margin of victory for the Lions in the 63-game history of the series that started in 1975.

Winning pitcher Jeff Cecchin (1-0) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs, striking out three and walking two for unranked Loyola Marymount (4-7).

Titan starter Tim Baron (0-1) lasted only two innings, giving up five hits and three runs.

Fullerton (7-5) scored two runs in the sixth inning, to make it 6-3, when Scott Seal scored on an error and Ryan Owens doubled in C.J. Ankrum. But Loyola came back with three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth.

In another nonconference game:

Concordia 7, UC San Diego 6--Matt France hit a three-run double to highlight a five-run eighth inning as host Concordia (5-6) rallied from a 5-2 deficit.

In Big West conference women’s basketball:

Long Beach State 83, Idaho 74--Kesha Wade had 24 points and nine steals and Toby Metoyer had 24 points, making 11 of 14 shots from the field, for host Long Beach (9-14, 6-6). The 49ers shot 61% from the field in the first half to take a 13-point halftime lead.

Alli Nieman scored 24 points for Idaho (11-12, 6-5).

In a nonconference game:

Chapman 74, Pacific Christian 40--Lindsay Foss scored 15 points and Melissa Lopez added 11 for Chapman (19-5), which won its ninth consecutive game.
