It got ugly on the scoreboard but that made for some fun on the court. Prettiest play was O’Bannon’s follow slam off a Bailey miss near the eight-minute mark. McCoy had three dunks, all of which seemed to come over USC center David Crouse. Dollar’s return from the bench was a welcome sight for UCLA, as he made a three-pointer and a driving layup in the first three minutes, sparking UCLA’s 20-8 run in a nine-minute stretch. USC was doomed long before it happened, but Rhodes finally did score a basket, a short jumper with 8:44 left, cutting the Bruin lead to 16. UCLA’s Henderson did much talking before the game but none during, his only show of emotion was a brief smile after a frustration foul by USC’s Gary Johnson at midcourt. The finishing touch should have been another three-pointer by Bailey, but the Bruins settled for a breakaway slam by O’Bannon with :50 left. At that point fans began chanting “Just SC.”
