Banquet Will Honor 800 Volunteers

More than 800 volunteers will be honored March 3 at “Fiesta Para Dar Gracias,” which is Spanish for “Party to Give Thanks.”

The 17th annual recognition banquet at the Anaheim Convention Center will pay tribute to the hundreds of volunteers, businesses and local service clubs who support community programming.

With a Latin theme this year, the event will feature folkloric dancers, a Latin band and Latin craft activities.

City officials said the monetary value of nearly 100,000 volunteer hours and contributed services, products and donations each year would total more than $1 million.

But the true value of the volunteers, businesses and community groups being honored is in their commitment to promote social welfare and combat community deterioration in the city, officials said.

Individual and corporate support helps to provide events and services to assist in gang prevention and intervention programs, to assist the elderly and disabled, and to promote environmental programs.

City recreation supervisor Teri Mountford and volunteer coordinator Michelle Pritchard are coordinators for the citywide program.
