Youths Selling Candy Attacked; 2 Arrested

Share

A group of Oxnard youths selling candy and anti-gang novelty items got a rude welcome in the Montalvo area of Ventura when another group of youths beat them with bats and stole their candy.

“Basically they started attacking them because they were from Oxnard,” said Sgt. Bob Velez. “It was a turf thing.”

The attack occurred about 7:30 p.m. Thursday near Peacock Avenue and Hummingbird Street.

Police arrested two youths on suspicion of armed robbery, and a third was still at large Friday, Velez said.

“We know who the third one is,” he said.

All the suspects are 15 or younger, as are the four victims.

One of the youths who was beaten sustained a “golf-ball sized” knot on his head, Velez said. He did not require medical attention.
