Arlene G. Schlosser, who worked as an accounting payroll clerk for the city of Oxnard for 20 years, died last week after a brief illness. She was 69.

Schlosser arrived in California in 1943, when her parents moved the family west from Havlock, Iowa, to Burbank. Two years later, Schlosser moved to Ventura. Her first local job was at Oxnard Airport. Then she worked as a payroll clerk for the city until her retirement in 1991.

Schlosser surprised her family when she took up motorcycle riding in the late 1970s. She and her second husband, Charles Schlosser, toured California, Arizona, Oregon and Nevada.

“She loved motorcycles,” said her son, Brad McElmurry of Ventura. “She wore a leather jacket and boots and the whole thing. We called her ‘the motorcycle grandma.’ ”

Schlosser was very active in the PTA when her son and three daughters were in school, and she was very proud of her grandchildren, McElmurry said.

In addition to McElmurry, she is survived by daughters Pam Stoltz of Minnesota, Ginni Sexton of Illinois and Jill Irish of Temecula.

Schlosser is also survived by a sister, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home of Ventura.
