Board Seeks Ideas for District’s New Name

Share

Trustees of Saddleback Community College District are seeking suggestions from the public for a new district name.

Board members said there is confusion over the district’s name because it is similar to the name of one of its campuses: Saddleback College in Mission Viejo. The district also operates Irvine Valley College in Irvine.

John S. Williams, vice president of the board, has suggested that the district be renamed South Orange County Community College District. The district’s boundaries extend from Tustin to San Clemente.

Other names being considered are South Valley Community College District, South Coast Community College District, Sea Mountain Valley Community College District and Old Groves Community College District.

In 1967, when the district was formed, it was called Saddleback Junior College District. It took its current name in 1970.

Residents may mail name suggestions to District Public Information, Saddleback Community College District, 28000 Marguerite Parkway, Mission Viejo, CA 92692-3635; or fax them to (714) 364-2726. Information: (714) 582-4997.
