Man Killed After Stabbing Officer, Police Say
A Los Angeles police officer shot and killed a bicyclist Thursday in Mar Vista after the man allegedly attacked the officer with a knife, police said.
The man, who witnesses described as a transient, was riding a bicycle on Jefferson Boulevard when a senior officer with the LAPD’s Pacific Division pulled him over for a traffic violation, police said.
As the officer approached him, the man became belligerent and lunged at him with a four-inch knife, inflicting minor stab wounds, according to police. The officer fired, striking the man, who died later at a hospital. The name of the victim was not immediately released.
