Daigneault Idled While He Appeals

Share

J.J. Daigneault is appealing his 10-game suspension for slashing referee Don Koharski but does not know when his hearing will be.

Daigneault cannot play while his appeal is pending. The NHL is required to hold a hearing as soon as possible before the fourth game of the suspension.

With Daigneault out, General Manager Jack Ferreira is scrambling to shore up the Ducks’ defense again only a week after trading for Daigneault.

“You’ve got to try to figure out how to get through the next 10 days,” Ferreira said. The Ducks hope injured defensemen Dave Karpa and Ken Baumgartner will return within about two weeks. Until then, the Ducks have only two experienced defensemen.

“I’m not going to do something that would be temporary,” Ferreira said. “I’m really trying to do something that fits in and helps us down the stretch.”

Ferreira said he wasn’t notified of any NHL review of Dmitri Miranov’s slashing major and game misconduct against Edmonton on Wednesday and doesn’t anticipate any additional discipline.
