O.C. Fire Forces 40 From Homes
Forty people were forced from their homes Saturday after a fire gutted a three-bedroom, two-story apartment and partially damaged two other units in an unincorporated area near the city of Orange.
No one was injured, and the cause of the fire was under investigation, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Scott Brown.
The 4 p.m. blaze caused $100,000 in damages and occurred at the Rancho Santiago Apartments at 11762 Rancho Santiago Blvd.
The destroyed unit had a smoke alarm, but it did not work, Brown said. “If there had not been some neighbors knocking on the door and making them aware there was a fire, there could have been a tragic outcome,” Brown said.
