Woman Jumps Off Cliff, Resists Help

Share

Saying that she was looking for God, a woman jumped off a cliff into a San Gabriel Canyon embankment and tried to refuse help from rescue workers who airlifted her to safety against her will early Tuesday.

Kim Moore, 37, of Azusa hiked up to the embankment with her 9-year-old son, authorities said.

The boy made his way down the mountain to Foothill Boulevard and Azusa Avenue, where police found him at 10:15 p.m. He led officers to the approximate location where his mother had landed, said Azusa police spokesman Frank Chavez. When rescuers found Moore at 6 a.m., she refused help.

The woman, who had taken off her clothing, was taken to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendale.

One of Moore’s relatives told officers Moore had been “acting strange” lately. “The family member said she left a note saying, ‘God is at the mountains,’ ” Chavez said.
