Seminar to Explain Radon Safeguards
The Ventura County Environmental Health Division working with the Building Industry Assns. of Ventura and Central Coast will host a four-hour educational seminar Thursday on ways to reduce radon concentrations in homes.
Experts from the Western Regional Radon Training Center will organize the seminar and also tell participants how to safeguard new structures from the gas.
Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that can seep from the ground into houses, apartments and commercial buildings. Studies have shown that elevated radon concentrations can increase the likelihood of inhabitants developing lung cancer.
Recent surveys indicate that homes in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties have higher levels of radon than those in other parts of the state.
The seminar begins at 1 p.m. at the County Government Center, Room 344, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura. For information or to reserve a space, call Debra Borsos at 654-5039.
