Tale of Two Faves

News on two Silver Lake club faves, Touchcandy and Fluorescein: Glam slammers Touchcandy will be at the White Horse Inn tonight (on Western Avenue in Hollywood) to perform their 100th show and celebrate the upcoming debut of “Nights of Touchcandy,” which the group is releasing on April 18 on its own Septic Tank label. The band, which is departing for Austin, Texas, on Friday for the SXSW music conference, acquired a new bass player, Rico Adair (of Bottom 12 fame), after the death of bassist Eric Barbella (in November in an auto accident in Palm Springs). Touchcandy headlines the Viper Room on March 19. . . .

Fluorescein, one of the best rock bands in the boho Eastside scene, has inked a deal with Geffen Records and the band (which took its name from the liquid docs squirt intravenously as an X-ray aid) is working with new drummer Rocco Bidlovski (formerly of 1000 Mona Lisas). . . .

A cool new surf-rockabilly-blues club is opening up on Tuesday nights at the Gig in West L.A. In homage to the ultimate Rat Pack photo (taken outside the now-blown-up Sands Hotel in Vegas), the club is titled Sandsabar, and it launches March 11 with a performance by Hot Rod Lincoln. (Blue Hawaiians play March 18.) The Gig is a gorgeous new lounge, so check it out. . . .

Costa Mesa may be a trek for Hollywood scenesters but it’s home to the Fat Pad, the most happening hip-hop spot on the current clubland map. Fat Pad happens on Fridays at the Lava Room (1945 Placentia Ave.) and so far, the Five Footers, Foesom, Born Jamericans and the Mexicanz have performed at the Pad. Friday night look for Frost (who dropped the “Kid” from his name) and deejays DJ Curse and Julio G, who keep it real each week.
