Pacific Bell Printer’s Goof Gives It Wrong Numbers

Share

About 269,000 South County customers of Pacific Bell will receive a 261-page residential listings supplement to their phone books, because the printer accidentally used last year’s plates in printing this year’s books.

Nancy Swayse, a Pac Bell spokeswoman, said a mistake of this magnitude hasn’t happened before. The company decided “to completely reprint the whole residential white pages listing and redistribute it.”

Pacific Bell was midway through its distribution of new directories in February, when a customer contacted the company to point out that the residential listings in the new phone books jumped from “F” to “G” and back to “F” again, Swayse said.

Distribution of the phone books will continue, since not all the books contain old listings, and everyone will receive the supplement. Distribution should be completed by March 14, Swayse said.

The cities in the affected area are Dana Point, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Beach, San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente and Rancho Santa Margarita.
