Scholarships Aimed at a Variety of Needs

More than $30,000 is up for grabs for college-bound students in the form of more than a dozen Ventura County Community Foundation scholarships.

The scholarships include:

* Two to four Bernice Barnard Music Specialist Scholarships of $500 to $1,000 for music students in Ventura or Ojai.

* Up to four $625 Calavo Scholarships for agriculture students related by blood or marriage to the Calavo Growers of California.

* The $2,000 William A. Fairburn Jr. and Cynthia D. Fairburn Memorial Scholarship for students pursuing liberal arts or humanities studies at an accredited college or university.

* The $2,000 Charles K. Gose Scholarship for students of government or economics with at least a 3.5 grade point average.

* The $500 Vicky Howard Community Service Award for a high school senior in the Simi Valley or Moorpark unified school districts with outstanding dedication to community service in those cities.

* The $900 Parker M. and Virginia Howell Scholarship for students pursuing their studies in engineering or writing who meet the eligibility requirements for the University of California system and who demonstrate financial need.

* The $500 Joyce M. Kennedy PhD Scholarship for students with at least a 2.5 GPA intending to enroll or already enrolled at Cal State Northridge--Ventura County.

* The two $1,500 and one $1,000 Sage Scholarships for students who have shown initiative and improvement in academics, demonstrate good citizenship and financial need.

* The $1,000 Salik Omar Shah Scholarship for high school graduates of Oxnard High School who have a minimum 3.5 GPA and evidence of financial need.

* One $2,000 and one $1,000 Milton McKevett Teague Scholarship for students studying one of the many agriculture fields.

* Awards of varying amounts from the Ventura County Minority Business Group Scholarships.

Applications for the 1997 awards--available at all county high schools and community colleges--must be received at the VCCF offices, 1355 Del Norte Road, Camarillo 93010, by 4 p.m. April 8.
