Some attacks by lone gunmen in the Middle East:

April 11, 1982: American-born immigrant Alan Goodman sprays Jerusalem’s Temple Mount with gunfire, killing two Palestinians and wounding nine.

Oct. 6, 1985: A paramilitary Egyptian police officer kills seven Israeli tourists at the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Ras Burka.

Aug. 8, 1989: A Jordanian soldier crosses into Israel, wounding an American and holding an Israeli hostage. The hostage is freed and the soldier is killed by a sharpshooter.

Feb. 24, 1994: New York-born Israeli settler Baruch Goldstein opens fire during dawn prayers at Hebron’s Cave of the Patriarchs, killing about 30 Muslim worshipers. A mob kills him.

Jan. 1, 1997: Off-duty Israeli soldier Noam Friedman opens fire on shoppers in an Arab outdoor market in the West Bank city of Hebron, wounding five Palestinians before being overpowered by another soldier.
