Nixon Library Free on First Lady’s Birthday

In honor of the birthday of former First Lady Pat Nixon, the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace will be open free to the public on Sunday.

There also will be a free concert in the afternoon featuring Big Band music and including some of the former first lady’s favorite numbers.

Pat Nixon, who was born Thelma Catherine Ryan on March 16, 1912, was noted for several accomplishments, both at home and abroad, while her husband was in the White House.

She arranged the first White House tours for the visually and hearing impaired and established candlelight tours for people who worked during the day.

She was the first president’s wife to represent the nation abroad without the president and the first to travel to a combat zone.

The Nixon Library is at 18001 Yorba Linda Blvd. It is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Information: (714) 993-5075.
