Sound Effects: The North Hollywood bank robbery shootout remained in the news. As the week ended, police on Friday invited reporters to meet officers who survived the gun battle. . . . They even had shootout sound effects, obtained from a civilian. It turned out they were bogus. They came from the movie “Heat.”

Winners: GOP Assemblyman Tom McClintock had his say this week and NBC had its way. . . . The studio gets to triple in size, according to a plan fully endorsed by a Burbank City Council excited about the revenue potential. . . . As for McClintock, he dissed carpool lanes at a carpool ceremony, then became a national media darling for criticizing an Assembly proposal to honor a dead rapper with a criminal record.

Losers: Why make a pilgrimage to the Antelope Valley this spring if its trademark poppies are too pooped to bloom? Beats us. That’s why the Antelope Valley made the losers’ column this week. . . . Chief Willie Williams, of Woodland Hills, came up short too: no new contract. His comeback? Going on live television with the arrest of a Valley Village man he said killed Ennis Cosby.
