Manatee in Trouble Trussed Up No More

After eluding would-be rescuers for nearly two years, a manatee that was being killed slowly by a piece of cord fell for gobs of lettuce and let down her guard long enough to be captured. Biologists cornered the 360-pound manatee, nicknamed Phyllis, in a Coral Gables, Fla., canal and removed the cord, which ringed her body.
