A streak will be on the line today at Santa Anita when Fraley, a 6-year-old gelding, runs in the ninth race, a $16,000 claimer for older horses.

In the last two weeks, owners Ron and Susie Anson, trainer Doug Peterson and jockey Matt Garcia have combined to win with their last five starters. Fraley, the 5-2 favorite today, provided the first of those victories.

In addition to Fraley, who was claimed by the Ansons and Peterson for $10,000 on Feb. 16, the other victories have been provided by Spectal, Reality Changes, Tobin Ruler and Moonlit Swoon.

“It’s really been a team effort,” said Peterson. “Rene Romero is [the Ansons’] stable manager and he makes the right decisions. Mr. Anson puts up the money and is very patient with the horses and their progress.

“I do my part once I get the horses. Matt Garcia is the other part of the equation. He’s not a polished rider yet, but he listens, watches films, studies hard and is really progressing quickly.”
