Public Service Groups to Share $10,000

The City Council unanimously approved two motions Tuesday that will provide nearly $10,000 for cleanup and public service projects in District 11, which includes portions of the southwest and central San Fernando Valley.

The motions were introduced by Councilman Marvin Braude, who represents the district.

Organizations that will split $5,000 for cleanup projects include the Encino Chamber of Commerce, Neighborhood Beautification, New Directions for Youth, Mid-Valley Community Police Council, West Valley Police Activity League Supporters and the Mid-Valley Chamber of Commerce. Cleanups will involve planting, trash removal, hauling of debris and graffiti removal.

Groups sharing $4,750 for public services include:

* Mid Valley Community Police Council, for distribution to Explorer Scout Program, Neighborhood Watch, Van Nuys and Sepulveda Business Watch.

* West Valley PALS, for Explorer Scout Program and Neighborhood Watch and Business Watch.

* Mid Valley Jeopardy Foundation Inc., for youth programs.

* The Boys & Girls Club of the West San Fernando Valley, for youth programs.

* Mid-Valley YMCA, for youth programs.

* San Fernando Valley Arts Council, for youth arts programs.

* Homestead Hospice and Shelter--The Pioneer Home, for AIDS-care expenses.

* Students Run LA, for youth program expenses.

* Home Secure, for security systems for disabled people, seniors and single-parent families.

* Pacific Lodge Boys Home, for youth education.

* Valley Interfaith Council, for Meals on Wheels expenses.

* Friends of the Encino/Tarzana Branch Library, for a computer/homework center.
