It took 31 points from Bryant Reeves.

It took 24 points and a career-high 14 rebounds from rookie Shareef Abdur-Rahim.

And it took a club-record 70 first-half points from a team that had only scored a total of 72 and 73 in its previous two games.

But the combination of all those numbers finally took the Vancouver Grizzlies back into the win column Friday night to break a 15-game losing streak, longest in the league this year.

The Grizzlies defeated the Denver Nuggets, 108-101, at Vancouver to give the Grizzlies their first win since Feb. 14.

Denver’s loss overshadowed a fine outing by Antonio McDyess, who had 29 points and went four for six from three-point range, doubling his season total for three-pointers.

Sacramento 114, San Antonio 110--Eddie Jordan was a winner in his NBA coaching debut as the Kings snapped a seven-game losing streak by winning in overtime at Sacramento.

Jordan became the Kings’ interim coach when Garry St. Jean was fired Thursday.

Mitch Richmond scored 28 points and Corliss Williamson had 17 for the Kings, who trailed by nine points entering the fourth quarter.

Dominique Wilkins led San Antonio with 31 points and Vinny Del Negro had 25.

The Spurs pulled to 110-108 on a three-pointer by Del Negro with 29 seconds remaining in overtime. Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf twice went to the line in the final 22.7 seconds, making four in a row to enable the Kings to hold on for the win.

Chicago 117, Indiana 98--Michael Jordan vs. Reggie Miller was no contest as Jordan scored 36 points and helped hold Miller to 18 at Indianapolis.

While Jordan was topping the 30-point mark for the 38th time this season, Miller was five of 17 from the field, including two for 10 from three-point range.

“Any time you play the best, then that makes me want to play my best,” Jordan said in reference to Miller. “You just keep a hand in his face and make him work on the defensive end, do the same things he tries to do with me.”

Dennis Rodman made sure Jordan had plenty of opportunities to shoot by grabbing 19 rebounds.

Philadelphia 112, New Jersey 111--Derrick Coleman’s follow-up dunk with two seconds to play was the difference at Philadelphia as the 76ers broke a three-game losing streak.

Coleman’s basket came seconds after the Nets’ Sam Cassell was hit with a technical foul by referee Jack Nies for taunting. Cassell had been fouled by Allen Iverson and made two free throws to put the Nets up, 110-109. Jerry Stackhouse made the technical, then drove to the basket on the ensuing possession and missed, but Coleman was there for the follow.

Stackhouse had 31 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter, and all five Philadelphia starters scored in double figures.

Kendall Gill scored 33 points and Cassell had 28 for the Nets.

Orlando 104, Boston 99--The Magic completed one of its toughest endurance tests of the season, playing its fifth game in a week. The result was Orlando’s fourth victory over that stretch and its eighth win in 11 outings.

The keys for the Magic were Penny Hardaway (27 points) and a defense that held the Celtics without a field goal in the final 3:54.

Rookie Antoine Walker had 19 points and a career-high 21 rebounds for Boston, a loser for the 23rd time in 25 games.

Charlotte 102, Toronto 97--Glen Rice scored 27 points and Vlade Divac made four free throws in the final four minutes at Toronto to lead the Hornets to their ninth victory in 11 games.

The victory also put the Hornets (44-24) 20 games over .500 for the first time in club history.

Charlotte played most of the second half without Anthony Mason, who injured his right foot with 6:22 to play in the third quarter and didn’t return.

Damon Stoudamire led the Raptors with 29 points. Marcus Camby had 16 points, all in the second half, and a career-high 16 rebounds.

Atlanta 93, Dallas 72--Mookie Blaylock scored 20 points and Dikembe Mutombo had 18 rebounds and two blocks in leading the Hawks to their 30th victory in 34 games at Atlanta.
