Gas Shut-Off Valves
* Re “Homeowners Need to Take Own Quake Safety Measures,” March 3.
The editorial about automatic gas shut-off valves was timely and ironic since my own automatic valve shut my gas off after my gardener used the gas meter as a stepladder (again) and shook it to the “off” position. But I’m not complaining. I agree with your statement that “the valves make sense as part of a larger plan to protect the largest investment most people have.” I consider this cost to be like insurance, yet I will pay my premium only once and get something tangible for my hard-earned money.
I shall continue to be an advocate of any device that will protect my family (smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector), and if I have to reset my automatic gas shut-off valve again this year, I will just shrug it off.
