Loud and Proud in Support of the Cirque

Share

* Cirque du Soleil a nuisance to residents, you say? Maybe, but a pleasure for most (“Noise Issue Takes the Stage at Cirque du Soleil,” March 9).

Cirque du Soleil is at the Orange County Fairgrounds for such a short time, so we must say to the critics: Deal with it, enjoy the show!

The circus attendance is in the thousands, bringing income into the community and happiness to the attendees.

Not to mention a very important fact: This circus doesn’t travel with animals, which can be brutal to the animals. The joy that Cirque du Soleil brings to thousands outweighs a few residents complaining about a temporary visiting attraction. This circus can come to our city any time. We won’t complain; we will always welcome and support this wonderful troupe.

* My wife and I just returned from the enjoyable and truly tremendous entertainment of Cirque du Soleil.

I am disappointed to continually read the whining comments of a few Costa Mesa residents who live near the Orange County Fairgrounds [about circus noise]. They are using this forum only to advance their selfish interests.

Fortunately the negative publicity from Cirque’s neighbors has only caused audiences to more fully appreciate the magnificent artistry, acrobatics, theatrical and musical talent of this international group of performers.

Orange County should be proud that this critically acclaimed troupe has delighted thousands of residents on its biennial visits to Costa Mesa. When I see a totally packed house give a standing ovation to these talented young athletes, I have to believe that there is strong support for Cirque.

Is not the fundamental premise of our democratic system that the majority rules? Well, the majority approves of Cirque du Soleil.
