San Jose’s Ed Belfour took over the league lead for penalty minutes for a goaltender when he was called for a double-minor in the first period against the Kings on Saturday night.

Belfour was given a four-minute penalty for attacking the Kings’ Brad Smyth and now has 34 for the season to pass Philadelphia’s Ron Hextall, who has 31.

Belfour’s penalty led to the Kings’ first goal, when Vitali Yachmenev scored with 10.4 seconds remaining in the period for the team’s first power-play goal in three games.

Goaltender Jean-Claude Bergeron was recalled from Phoenix, the Kings’ minor league affiliate, for the game against the Sharks.

Bergeron, who was 8-19-6 with the Roadrunners this season, got the call because Stephane Fiset aggravated his groin/stomach injury of earlier this month and is listed as week to week. Jamie Storr, who normally is the Kings’ third goalie, has a foot injury.

Forward Dan Bylsma’s streak of 72 consecutive games came to an end Saturday. Bylsma had been the only King to have played in every game this season.
