Board Seated for Center’s Fund Drive

A board of directors for the Community Center Alliance, a nonprofit benefit corporation, was seated recently and will take up the task of raising funds to help build the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center.

The CCA was established to “inspire the surrounding communities and businesses to financially assist the building and furnishing” of the center, a joint venture of the cities of Agoura Hills and Calabasas, new board member Marilyn Brainard said.

The cities are using county Proposition A monies to build the 28,000-square-foot center, but several expenditures not provided for have cropped up in the planning, including costs associated with building a retaining wall on the site.

The foundation also would be expected to provide gymnasium equipment and office furniture once the facility is ready for use.

“We realize furnishings and equipment for this size facility is going to be a tremendous undertaking,” Brainard said.

The CCA also hopes to establish an endowment for the programs and for ongoing operations of the center, which is expected to include a gymnasium, a dance and fitness room and a senior center.

“We want to make this as self-supporting as possible because we realize that we cannot get these funds through taxes and the general funds,” Brainard said.

The members of the board from Agoura Hills are Jerome Wolf, Kirk Allegro, Rick Baldwin, Joice Corridori and Brainard. Board members representing Calabasas are Daniel Glaser, Marla Klein, Michael Anton, Douglas Bordner and Cary Ross.

Gail Smith, a resident of nearby Westlake Village, is the only board member living outside Agoura Hills and Calabasas.)

The CCA will meet at 7 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month through May, in the conference room of the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, 4232 Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas.
