A fashion show and luncheon for Casa Pacifica, Ventura County’s only crisis and residential care facility for abused, abandoned and at-risk children, raised about $25,000, more than double last year’s total, officials said Monday.

“This step up in support is a sign that our supporters believe in our mission more now than ever,” said Tanya Gonzales, director of fund development. “I think they’ve taken the time to be educated about the kinds of kids we have here and the challenges we face.”

Children come to Casa Pacifica with both emotional and physical scars of abuse and are placed in one of two programs: the shelter program, a partnership between Casa Pacifica and the county; and the residential treatment program, a private nonprofit run solely by Casa Pacifica.

Last year, 328 children, from birth through age 17, were placed in the shelter facility, 99 of them on more than one occasion.

Casa Pacifica’s other program, a 28-bed residential treatment facility, serves children from 9 to 18 who have exhausted the resources of the county’s foster care settings and require a more restrictive environment.

Casa Pacifica’s next event is the Wine and Food Festival at Pierpont Inn May 18. For more information, call 445-7800.
