Man Retrieving Kite Climbs Edison Fence, Is Electrocuted
A man trying to retrieve his daughter’s kite was killed Monday when he climbed onto an electric company circuit breaker in Carson, plunging a portion of the area into darkness, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Jose Luis Flores, 23, climbed a fence at the Southern California Edison substation at 220th Street and Grace Avenue about 6:30 p.m. and was electrocuted, Sgt. Brian Stover said.
Edison spokesman Paul Klein said the Carson resident got into a high-voltage circuit breaker, which caused his death.
The transformer blowout caused a brief outage in a significant area of the city, Stover said.
