Marinovich Jailed When Deputies Find Marijuana Plant in His Home
Former Raider and USC quarterback Todd Marinovich spent Monday night in jail after sheriff’s deputies found a marijuana plant and other drug paraphernalia in his Dana Point home, authorities said Tuesday.
Orange County sheriff’s Lt. Keith Brown said Marinovich, 27, was arrested for investigation of cultivation of marijuana and possession of narcotics.
Brown said Marinovich was held at Orange County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail. He was released on bail Tuesday.
Marinovich had apparently called 911 when a friend became unconscious after using an unknown opiate, Brown said.
While paramedics treated the friend, deputies looking around Marinovich’s house found prescription medication not in Marinovich’s name, a marijuana plant, a bag of marijuana and a syringe, Brown said.
John Valdez, 29, was in stable condition Tuesday at South Coast Medical Center in nearby Laguna Beach.
Marinovich had a troubled career with both USC and the Raiders, who made him the 24th overall selection in the 1991 NFL draft.
They cut him at the end of their 1993 training camp.
