Waves Extend Streak With Sweep

Pepperdine extended its winning streak to eight games by sweeping San Francisco, 11-3 and 7-4, in a West Coast Conference baseball doubleheader Friday in Malibu.

The Waves (19-15, 7-0 in conference play) came from behind in each game, including a 3-1 deficit in the opener that was erased by a seven-run fourth inning.

Shortstop David Matranga hit a three-run home run, his seventh homer of the season, and the Waves emerged from the inning with an 8-3 lead.

Right-hander Steve Schenewerk (5-1) gave up nine hits and shut out San Francisco in every inning except the third, when the Dons scored their three runs.

In the second game, Mike Kramer broke a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning with a one-out, run-scoring single and Rob Reid followed with a two-run triple.

The Waves have won 13 consecutive home games.

San Francisco (14-18, 2-5) had rallied to tie the score with two runs in the top of the eighth.

Mission 23, Fullerton 6--The Free Spirit (14-15) collected 24 hits, including 10 for extra bases, and scored in eight of nine innings to finish 3-1 in the Fullerton tournament.

Jerry Delgado had four hits, including two doubles, and drove in four runs, and Eli Albertson had four hits, including two doubles, and had three runs batted in and three runs scored for Mission.
