Lugnuts, We’ve Got ‘Em

Jon Peterson knows why his online store, Minor Leagues, Major Dreams (https://www.minorleagues.com), is such a success: “We offer a unique product that one can usually only buy through mail order.”

Rarity is the key concept for Peterson, as it’s nearly impossible to find a jersey for minor-league hockey’s Long Beach Ice Dogs in your average sporting goods store.

Specializing in officially licensed minor-league sports merchandise, Minor Leagues, Major Dreams offers nearly impossible-to-find caps, jerseys, jackets and other wearables for teams such as the Lansing Lugnuts (affiliate: Kansas City Royals, Class A) or the Savannah Sand Gnats (affiliate: Los Angeles Dodgers, Class A).

With a $2,000 equipment investment, Peterson launched his store on the World Wide Web nearly two years ago to increase visibility for his Anaheim location. Little did he expect Minor Leagues, Major Dreams’ online venture to hit one out of the park.

With a growth rate averaging 20% a month, profit from Peterson’s online presence more than covers the expenses for his offline storefront and accounts for more than 30% of his total revenue.
