‘Schindler’s List’ Promoter to Speak

Leopold Page, the Beverly Hills luggage salesman and Holocaust survivor who spent 40 years urging writers and filmmakers to tell the story of Oskar Schindler’s list, will speak about his experiences Friday at Kol Tikvah.

His remarks will be part of a regular worship service at the Reform synagogue, located at 20400 Ventura Blvd.

“The airing of ‘Schindler’s List’ [on NBC] stirred up a lot of interest in the local community,” said temple member Florence Klatzko, who helped arrange the appearance. “He is going to talk about how hard it was to get the world to understand what happened to him.”

As part of Page’s commitment to spread the story of Schindler’s compassion and heroism, he contacted author Thomas Keneally. That relationship resulted in the best-selling book that Steven Spielberg made into an Oscar-winning film.

Klatzko said previous Kol Tikvah speakers have attracted crowds of up to 1,000.

“People know that on a Friday night, everyone can come,” she said. “Everyone is welcome.”

The service will begin at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call (818) 348-0670.
