* UPDATE: The Dodgers have now lost eight consecutive regular-season and postseason games, scoring only 10 runs. They were shut out for the first time Tuesday in an opener since 1970, producing only two hits off Phillie starter Curt Schilling. Nomo, who finished fourth in the Cy Young voting last year, is the first Dodger pitcher to record 200 or more strikeouts in his first two major league seasons. The Phillies, however, are one of the few teams who have given him trouble. He is 1-2 with a 3.89 ERA against them. Phillie left fielder Gregg Jefferies has given Nomo fits, batting .556 with a 1.111 slugging percentage, hitting one home run with four RBIs in nine at-bats. Maduro is making his third big-league start.
