American Airlines’ pilots union leaders recessed a daylong meeting before voting on a four-year contract proposal that includes a 9% pay raise and options to buy shares in the carrier’s parent, AMR Corp., at a discount. The meeting resumes today. . . . Healthdyne Technology Inc. rejected a takeover bid from Invacare Corp. for a third time, saying the latest offer of $13.50 a share, or $172.6 million, was still too low. . . . Marriott International Inc. agreed to sell 14 hotels in seven states to Hospitality Properties Trust Inc. for $149 million in cash. The 10 Residence Inns and four Courtyard properties were or are in the process of being developed by Washington-based Marriott, which will continue to manage the properties. . . . Exxon Corp. said its Chinese affiliates plan to build their first two lube oil blending plants in China to boost its offerings in the Chinese lubricants market. Construction of the plants, which each will have a capacity of 250,000 barrels annually, is expected to be completed by the middle of 1998. . . . American Greetings Corp.’s chief executive, Morry Weiss, said the card company remains interested in buying rival Gibson Greetings Inc., a year after its acquisition bid failed. . . . MCI Communications Corp. said it will add 1,000 jobs in Atlanta within two years, naming the city as headquarters for its North American business unit, after completion of its pending sale to British Telecommunications.
