Couple Suspected of Selling Heroin
A local couple await arraignment in Ventura County Jail on allegations that they were selling heroin out of their apartment.
The couple, 32-year-old Jesus Octavio Lopez and 36-year-old Joanne Aceves Lopez, were arrested Wednesday morning after a three-week investigation by the Oxnard and Port Hueneme narcotics units, said Oxnard Sgt. Tim Combs.
The investigation--led by Oxnard Det. Martin Polo--was prompted by complaints from neighbors who said the couple were selling drugs from their apartment in the 200 block of East C Street, Combs said.
During their early-morning search of the apartment, police found a small amount of heroin--perhaps worth about $30--along with scales and packaging material, he said.
“They wouldn’t have that paraphernalia unless they were involved in selling the drug,” Combs said.
According to police, Jesus Lopez is facing a possible “third strike” if convicted on the charges.
The couple is scheduled to be arraigned next week, a jail spokeswoman said. Bail has been set at $5,000 each.
