School Board Selects New Superintendent

Calling it a unanimous vote for continuity, San Marino school board officials appointed Assistant Supt. Jack Rose on Thursday night to replace departing school chief Thomas Godley.

Rose, 54, who joined the school district as a junior high school assistant principal in 1981, was chosen based on his knowledge of the community and his work with the school board, said school board member Marnie Dam.

“I think he’ll do a fabulous job,” Dam said. “He’s worked at two of the [four] schools in the district. He’s hired most of the teachers here. In fact, he’s hired most of the principals here.”

In one of Rose’s first appearances as superintendent, he attended a farewell party Friday afternoon in honor of Godley, who is leaving to become superintendent of the Grossmont Union High School District in eastern San Diego County.
