Four-Star Films : ‘The Ten Commandments’

Share

This 1923 silent version, which was remade by Cecil B. DeMille in 1956, stars Rod LaRocque, Richard Dix, Estelle Taylor and Leatrice Joy. One of the grandest epics of the silent era, it isn’t all biblical, as is the remake. It shifts from the Old Testament to a modern-day parable (with Nita Naldi and Ricardo Cortez, pictured) about two brothers--one good, one bad. Hardly subtle but an enduring piece of entertainment (AMC early Saturday at 3:30 a.m.).
