Mother Who Abandoned Newborn Girl Sought
Authorities were seeking the mother of a newborn girl who abandoned her child at a South El Monte hospital hours after giving birth there Sunday, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
The unnamed baby was born shortly after 5:30 a.m. at Greater El Monte Community Hospital, Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Irving said. The mother disappeared from the hospital between 10:45 and 11:30 a.m., he said.
“The mother identified herself as Martha Trujillo when she was admitted by the hospital staff,” Irving said. “However, she did not provide a picture identification, and we have not been able to verify if that is her true name.”
The baby, weighing 4 pounds, 13 ounces and measuring 17 inches long, is in good condition, Irving said.
