Park to Undergo $100,000 Renovation

A run-down and neglected city park in the Fairfax district will be renovated into a lush and welcoming patch of land in a project sponsored by the city’s Recreation and Parks Department.

Fairfax business leaders joined Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Feuer on Monday to kick off the renovation of the new Rosewood Gardens on Fairfax Avenue. After years of deterioration, the small, overgrown strip of land has only a few trees, several rusted tables and overflowing trash cans.

But the $100,000 renovation project--part of a larger effort to rehabilitate the Fairfax area--will add curbed seat walls and steps, colored concrete paving and two park tables with built-in chessboards. New plants and trees will be planted, including roses, jasmine and bougainvillea.

After complaints from community leaders about the condition of the park, Feuer helped secure funding for the project, which is expected to be completed this summer.

“It is going to be renovated into a jewel of a park,” said Rochelle Ventura, Feuer’s chief field deputy. “It’s a place where people can gather for small community events or rest while shopping.”
