School Trustees, Bonds on Ballot

Share

Voters today will elect two Burbank school board members, decide whether to issue $112.5 million in bonds to improve schools, and choose whether to retain a 10% transient parking tax at short-term facilities like Burbank Airport.

The general municipal election, which includes candidates for the Los Angeles Community College District, features four candidates competing for two seats on the local school board. Current board members Denise Wilcox and Connie Lackey are being challenged by Patricia Burnett and Anthony De Felicis.

To pass, the bonds require a two-thirds majority. The parking tax needs a simple majority to pass.

Bond proceeds would be used to rebuild Burbank and Burroughs high schools, and replace inadequate electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems in all buildings in the district.

The measure would cost homeowners an average of $44 per $100,000 of assessed valuation for 25 years.

The transient parking tax, which does not apply to parking at hospitals, medical facilities and monthly employee or residential parking, was adopted by the Burbank City Council on Dec. 12, 1995.

The city’s 33 voting precincts will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
