Members of the Newport Beach Police Department were honored by the Newport Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce at the annual Police Appreciation breakfast.

Awards of merit went to Officer Peter Perrin for his work as the department’s polygrapher; Technical Reserve Officer Lynne Bloomberg for her work educating children about substance abuse; and Det. Joe Thrasher for 22 months of investigation in a vehicle theft case in which 178 motorcycles and 42 cars worth $1.7 million were recovered.

Awards of merit also went to Officer Glen Garrity for preventing a suicide and to Officer Dan Reynolds for saving the life of an elderly man by using cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Officer Craig Fox was named Officer of the Year. A member of the city’s SWAT team since 1986, Fox was cited as a role model by his colleagues.

Dispatcher Julie Faster was named Civilian Employee of the Year for being the driving force behind community bone marrow registry drives.

Sgt. Richard Long was named Supervisor of the Year for his leadership in both the records and communications sections and in the patrol division.

Reserve Officer Joe Brown was named Reserve Officer of the Year for filling in as court liaison officer last year.
