Fox Sports West sued the Angels and part-owner Disney Co. on Thursday, claiming they are unlawfully trying to breach the cable station’s contract to televise the team’s games.

Fox wants a court order that says the defendants are not allowed to break the contract at the end of the season.

A Disney spokesman said the company does not comment on pending lawsuits. An Angel spokesman could not be reached for immediate comment.

The Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit alleges Fox, previously operating as Prime Ticket, signed a contract extension in 1995 allowing it to broadcast until the end of the 1999 season.

Fox contends the team was allowed to terminate the contract under specific circumstances before the beginning of the 1996 season but didn’t.

But Fox claims it received a letter two weeks ago on Disney stationery that said the team will terminate the agreement after the last regular-season game in 1997.
