BOOKS OF MOSES STUDY: The Bible study class of the Seniors Department of the West Valley Jewish Community Center will celebrate the completion of its four-year study of the five Books of Moses, at 10 a.m. at the West Valley Jewish Community Center in West Hills. About 30 participants will present a favorite verse or incident from the Books of Moses, said Rabbi Harry Essrig, who has led the class for four years. “It’s been a great experience,” said the rabbi of his pupils, who learned the Books voluntarily. “They really are a peppy group.” The same students will next study the Book of Jeremiah. WELFARE REFORM DISCUSSION: A religious and social perspective on “Mending the Shredded Welfare Net” will be discussed in a community forum. CANDLELIGHT SERVICE: A Taize workshop will be held at 6:45 p.m. every Wednesday at the Northridge United Methodist Church, 9650 Reseda Blvd. The evening includes a candlelight service of silence, alternating with reflective choruses. NEW STAINED-GLASS WINDOW: A new stained-glass window, designed and completed by glass artists David and Michelle Plachte-Zuieback of Santa Rosa, has been installed at Valley Beth Shalom in Encino. The half-moon design stands 20 by 22 feet and includes images that symbolize the unity of “creation, nature and the soul,” said Rabbi Jerry Danzig. Around the border of the window, a Jewish prayer written in Hebrew translates as: “Here O Israel the Lord our God. The Lord is One.” The window was dedicated by Beverly and Herbert Gelfand of Beverly Hills.
