From Times Staff and Wire Reports

State Rep. Ciro Rodriguez soundly defeated fellow Democrat Juan Solis in a runoff election for the congressional seat held by the late Rep. Frank Tejeda. Rodriguez, 50, beat the former San Antonio councilman by a 2-1 margin to win the seat in the predominantly Democratic 28th Congressional District. Rodriguez received 19,915 votes, or 67%, to Solis’ 9,962, or 33%. Rodriguez and the 33-year-old Solis--the candidate endorsed by Tejeda’s family--were the top two vote-getters in a 15-candidate March election to fill the seat held by Tejeda, who died of brain cancer Jan. 30. Tejeda had represented the district since 1993.
