In Vail, Explore the Inner Mind

Share

Explore, a travel group for seniors, has announced its annual fall week of learning, Sept. 21 to 27. The program takes place in Colorado’s Vail Valley and the surrounding White River National Forest.

Guests participate in workshops and recreational clinics. Every day the topics are different. This fall’s program includes global issues, history, astronomy, music, watercolor painting, creative writing, photography, cooking, fly-fishing and fitness walking.

The teachers--most also seniors--are experts, and interaction with them is not limited to the workshops. Discussions continue at meals and during morning walks and afternoon hikes.

“Classrooms” range from a conference room to an alpine meadow, the Hyatt library or a mountain cabin. Home for the week will be the Hyatt Regency Beaver Creek, a European-style hotel with a courtyard, restaurants and shops. Health club facilities include an outdoor heated pool, steam room and Jacuzzi. A midweek break provides time for relaxation or golf, fishing and Western dancing. Each day, time is set aside for afternoon hikes on a nature trail, a bike ride through Vail (mountain bikes and helmets included), and yoga at the health club.

Prices for the Explore program are $1,895 per person on a double occupancy basis. For singles add $395. The cost includes six nights’ lodging, three dinner events, all breakfasts and lunches, and van transportation from hotel to activity sites.
