Molester’s Claim Before Council

Share

The City Council is expected tonight to deny a claim convicted child molester Sid Landau filed for alleged violations of his constitutional rights.

Landau, 57, filed the claim in March in response to the Police Department’s distribution of fliers with his name, address and photo that alerted neighbors of his presence. Landau is the first convicted child molester in Southern California to come under Megan’s Law, which allows police to warn neighbors a sex offender is living nearby.

Residents protested Landau’s presence, which eventually forced him to move to a Fullerton motel, where he is facing similar protests.

Landau’s claim does not ask for a specific amount of damages.

The council will also consider a request by the Boys and Girls Club of Placentia for $25,000 to help keep the club open and expand its programs.

The one-time funding assistance would be used to pay insurance premiums and to enhance programs. The club is also working on raising other funds.

A city staff report has recommended that the council consider funding the request through a cooperative effort, having club officials submit bills to the city for payment directly to vendors.

The report called the club “a valuable asset to our community and assistance by the city would allow the club to provide the quality services our young people deserve.”

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers, 401 E. Chapman Ave. Information: (714) 993-8231.
