City to Seek Grant for Oil Recycling Information, Equipment

Share

Ever wondered what to do with old motor oil? An answer may be on the way.

The City Council on Monday night approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to apply for an oil recycling grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board.

If it comes through, the grant would provide more than $90,000 to Ventura over the next three years to dispose of used oil. Ventura would receive $31,093 each year through 2000.

Ventura proposes to use the money to develop, print and distribute educational materials explaining to residents how to properly dispose of used oil. The city would also hire a consultant to examine current oil recycling centers and decide whether additional centers are necessary.

Remaining grant money would be used to provide collection tanks, oil filter crushers and other equipment needed to safely collect used oil at new and existing centers.
