Spotlight: LAX Earns Top Cargo Airport Rating in Survey
Los Angeles International Airport earned the top rating as best cargo airport in North America through an audited survey of 13,000 readers of Cargonews Asia magazine. In 1996, LAX handled the second-greatest freight and mail tonnage in the world--1.89 million tons. The value of LAX cargo was $60 billion--the highest of any airport in the world. The Asia-Pacific region is the fastest-growing region for air traffic and is expected to account for half of the world’s air-traffic volume by 2010.
