Group to Promote Organ Donations

Share

Local residents will spread the word this weekend about the benefits of donating organs to needy patients, launching Organ Donor Awareness Week.

From Sunday to April 27, members of the Westlake Liver Support Group will distribute information about how to become an organ donor from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. outside the North Ranch Pavilions supermarket.

Oak Park resident Antony Anjoubault, author of “Racing Against Time: Surviving an Organ Transplant and Living a Healthy Life,” will be available to sign copies of his book and answer questions.

“The problem is that 30,000 people are waiting for liver transplants each year, and only 3,600 get them,” Anjoubault said. “There’s a huge demand out there because it’s such an effective surgery, and it can give a person a whole new life.”

Anjoubault, 49, received a liver transplant nearly seven years ago after suffering from a degenerative illness for 20 years.

The North Ranch Pavilions shopping center is at the corner of Kanan and Lindero Canyon roads between Thousand Oaks and Oak Park.
