Ducks vs. Coyotes : Series Update

Share

* Tonight: Game 2, 7:30 at the Pond.

* Where the series stands: The Ducks took a hard-earned 4-2 victory in Game 1, thanks to two goals each by Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne. Guy Hebert made 29 saves and the Ducks extended their unbeaten streak at the Pond to 15 consecutive games (11-0-4).

* What to expect tonight: Look for the Coyotes to play a more physical game against Kariya and Selanne, hoping more checks will knock them off stride. Look for the Ducks to try to neutralize Phoenix power forward Keith Tkachuk, keeping him a safe distance from Hebert.

* What Ducks need to do to win: Nothing new. Kariya and Selanne must score goals and Hebert must stop the Coyotes. It won’t hurt if the Ducks get a goal from the second, third or fourth lines.

* What Coyotes need to do to win: Play to their strengths. Stopping Kariya and Selanne could turn into an obsession, which might do more harm than good. Goalie Nikolai Khabibulin should be sharper than in Game 1.

* Injury report: Rucchin is questionable. Defenseman Murray Baron of the Coyotes is out with a broken foot.
