Two Killed, Two Rescued After Truck Plunges From Angeles Crest Highway
Airborne Los Angeles County firefighters and sheriff’s deputies rescued survivors from a deep canyon in the Angeles National Forest on Friday after a light truck skidded off a road and plunged 200 feet down a cliff, killing two people and critically injuring two others, officials said.
The truck tumbled over the side of Angeles Crest Highway, several miles above La Canada Flintridge, shortly after 4:30 p.m., a Fire Department spokeswoman said.
One occupant was thrown from the vehicle as it fell. The survivors--an 8-year-old girl and a 28-year-old woman--were hoisted to a helicopter as TV news crews broadcast the rescue efforts. The survivors, who were not identified, were taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.
